A Study on the Management of the Clinical Laboratory Specimens for the Nurse

Abstract
Author studied on the bacterial contamination of the clinical specimens that were sent to the laboratory at 10, 30, 60, and 120 minutes after being stored in the nurse station of the ward in the Busan National University Hospital.
The results were as following:
1. The bacterial contamination rate of specimens which exposed to atmosphere at the each ward for 10 minutes was 63.9¡Æo (11 specimens among 16 specimens), for 30 minutes was 75.0%(12 specimens among 16 specimens), for 60 minutes 81.3% (13 specimens among 16 specimens) and for 120 minutes was 100% (16 specimens among 16 specimens).
2. Bacterial contamination rate of specimens from the atmosphere of the 3rd ward was the highest among three wards.
Above obtained results were suggested that doctors and nurses should be very cautious in the storage of the clinical laboratory specimens at the each ward, because the specimens were easily contaminated, after being exposed to atmosphere in the ward.
